Troubleshooting the Endura Flap Retainer Clip

Endura Flap Pet Doors provide year-round weather protection to keep your home insulated for maximum comfort. Strong magnets lining three sides of the pet door flap are a key component of the Endura’s energy-efficient design.

retainer clip

The Retainer Clip is a sturdy plastic piece that holds the magnets lining the bottom of the flap in place. This piece can be removed easily, allowing you to access the flap magnets and adjust their strength. This allows you to remove magnets for timid pets, or install additional magnets to increase wind resistance.

Since the retainer clip is essential for holding the magnets in place and maintaining magnetic resistance, it’s important to have some tips and tricks ready in case it falls off. We’ll go over the quick and easy process of reattaching a finicky retainer clip that doesn’t want to stay put on the pet door flap.

Take a look at minute 1:28 in this video, installing the retainer clip. Some dogs and cats open the pet door by pushing with their paw first, then passing through. Their paw can catch on the retainer clip, causing it to fall off. Below, we’ve detailed the process for solving this issue.

Step One: After adjusting the flap magnets to the desired amount, place the retainer clip on the bottom of the flap, pressing up gently to secure it in place.

Step Two: Make sure that the magnets line up and that the threshold sticks to the flap.

Step Three: Apply a bead of silicone along the top of the retainer clip on both sides of the flap.

That’s it! Applying silicone along the top of the clip creates a smooth edge between the retainer clip and the pet door flap. This prevents the retainer clip from popping off if your dog uses their paw to push the pet door open.

If your dog chewed the retainer clip, we carry replacement retainer clips here. Please note that older models of the Endura Flap used metal retainer clips, but the replacement will be plastic. The plastic clip will fit all Endura models and is excellent for longevity as it won’t rust in damp weather.

If you need to adjust the magnet strength, take a look at the video below.
